Business Sign Mounts: The Accessory to Your Signage

Sign mounts: What are your options? There are many components of a sign project, including design, manufacturing, and installation. Depending on the type of sign you have, different mounting techniques will be required to secure it during installation, but sign mounting isn’t just about functionality. Your method of sign mounting can also be an accessory that enhances the visual appearance of your signage. Depending on whether your sign hangs or is mounted directly to the wall, the hardware used will vary. Here’s some information to get you started.

Hanging signs: Scroll brackets, chains, and S-hooks

Hanging signs are versatile, and many businesses need them both indoors and outdoors. Outdoors, they may display the business name, whereas indoors, they may advertise promotions, show where to order food, or whatever else you need your sign to do based on your business type.

Outdoor hanging signs

A hanging sign may be used over a business’s entrance where it’s visible to people walking along the sidewalk. Outdoor signs are typically made from high density urethane or aluminum, as these materials are the best at resisting the elements. Scroll brackets are the standard method of securing an outdoor sign. Often made from weather-resistant aluminum, scroll brackets can be functional and sturdy as well as extremely decorative, featuring ornate filigree that can look Victorian. Simpler scroll designs are available if you’d prefer something less ornate, and even a basic scroll is elegant. With a carved sign attached to a scroll bracket, you’ll achieve an extremely elegant and classic look.

Indoor hanging signs

Interior signs, on the other hand, may be made from virtually any material as they don’t have to stand up to the outdoor elements, and acrylic hanging signs are among the most popular indoor signs, along with acrylic wall signs. These signs can be hung with simple S-hooks and a stainless steel or aluminum chain. While you’ll want to choose attractive hardware when necessary, you won’t need to rely on it to enhance a bold acrylic sign.

Mounted signs: Bolts and other hardwarebros-pizza-sign-hanging.jpg

Mounted signs are much more varied than hanging signs and include everything from lighted channel letters to boxy sign cabinets to simple acrylic wall signs. In some of these applications, the goal is not to see the mounting at all, and when we’re talking signs like channel letters that are large and have an electric component, the installation should be handled by a professional. Other types of mounted signs can be installed easily, though a professional is likely to do a more polished job. Acrylic wall signs and plaques are usually bolted to the wall, and just like you have many options for colors and finishes with acrylic, you can choose hardware that matches with the style of your sign.

Not sure what kind of hardware you should use to mount your sign? Working with a sign designer can help you get a better idea of what hardware works with the style of your sign and the graphics it displays. It’s also best to let a professional take care of installation if you are hesitant. With the right sign mounts and other hardware, your business and its signage can work together to attract customers.
